It is complicated to explain the relationship between Amir and Hassan--- as to Amir, sometimes he treated Hassan as his “playmate”, and for a few times he treated Hassan like brother. But Hassan always looked Amir as his master. From chapter 5, 6 and 7, I learned that in Amir’s heart he did not have a specific character for Hassan.
In fact, Amir thought that Hassan was his rival--- the rival who can get Baba’s love. “We let him wrap us in his arm and, for a brief insane moment, I was glad about whatever had happened that night.” (Page 36, chapter 5). Maybe if Baba did not give so much love to Hassan, Amir could treat Hassan as his friend actually. Whenever Amir saw Baba showed his love to Hassan, Amir would feel reluctant. What’s more, Amir even hated Hassan just because of the “sharing love” which should belong to Amir totally. Put away Amir’s envi, let’s seem his another feeling about Hassan. “ My smile broadened. That was another thing about Hassan. He always knew when to say the right thing…”(Page37, chapter 5) . From this we can see that Amir thought Hassan knew him very well---they were friends when concentrated on the same things. No matter what kind of character Amir looked Hassan as, Hassan always treated Amir as his master--- he listened to whatever Amir said, and he was eager to protect Amir when crisis came. “ Hassan was trying to tuck the slingshot in his waist with a pair of trembling hands.” (Page 43)--- even though Hassan was afraid of Assef, he still tried his best to prevent his master, Amir.
In a word, Amir did not have a specific emotion to Hassan, but Hassan looked Amir as his master forever.
this is a pretty good essay, u give many details u need to prove ur points, and the stucutrue is clear.By the way, u read it really fast...
ReplyDeleteI would really agree with you, I would like to share my opinion with you.
ReplyDeleteFirst, most children want to enjoy the whole love which come from their parents, just enjoy by themselves, without share the love with others. As for Amir, he is child who lack love from his parents, especially he has no mother and lack the love from his mother. He did not feel the sense of securty, so he would like to desired more love from his father. However, his father also give his love, a kind of father's love to Hassion, as a result of this reason, then lead to the jealous and dissatisfaction for Amir, Amir felt unhappy in his deeper mind, and he did not like to share the love with his friend, Hassion. Although Hassion is a servant, Amir still reagard him as his friend, maybe he had no friend except Hassion. Moreover Hassion is a pretty intellegent boy and think up great ideas, this win the love from Baba, Baba's action made the Amir produce complicated emotion, it is hardly to recognize the true relationship between Amir and Hassion. As a servant of Amir's, Hassion tried his best to protect Amir, no matter as a firend or servant, he could do any thing for Amir. As a friend, Hassion is an absolutely a competent person, be loyal to Amir forever.
In brief, this emotion is not difficult to understand, no body want to share parents love with other children, especially Hassion is not his brother in Amir's mind, though the truth is yes. Without the sharing love, Amir still treat Hassion as a friend.
My opinion is a little bit different from yours. I think your idea that Baba treat Hassan a little bit as his son is very good interpretation the relationship. However, It indicates the relationship between Amir and Hassan is more like brothers, I think.
ReplyDeleteI also want to correct your assignment. Hassan is not Hassion. Amir is not servant. His father is a servant of Amir's father.
I agree with you, especially the part about Amir lacking love from his father. I think you summarized the three chapters well.
ReplyDeletehey Yan, I totally agree with your example---all child wants to owe parents by themselves. But I really can not understand the relationship between Amir and Hassan clearly, you think that Amir treaded Hassan as a real friend?
