Assignmen 1: Amir & Baba

The relationship between Amir and Baba is distant and unhealthy.This is because of 2 examples. First, when Amir told Baba that he won a game (Sherjangi) at his school, Baba didn't care about it and he only nodded (p.19). Second, when Amir wrote a story, Baba wasn't interested in his story at all. In addition, Amir explains the moment is stressfull one minute saying "it was one of the longest minutes of my life." (KITE RUNNER; p.31)
Generally, a good father is interested in what his son do but Baba wasn't. These examples show that the relationship is distant, stressful and unhealthy, though Amir wanted to get closer to Baba (p.32).
Their unhealty relationship is caused by their differences. They are very different from each other. Baba is very ambitious about his success. On the other hand, Amir is very tame and literary. This character is represented by the attitude in Buzkashi tournament. After the event, Baba said to Rahim Khan "If I hadn't seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I'd never believe he's my son." (KITE RUNNER; p.23)
This means they are very different and the bond they share is only their blood.

    I am in favor that the unhealthy relationship results from their different personality and attitudes to life.In addition, lack of commuinication and the time background leads to it.
    On the other hand, I do not think the only bond between Amir and Baba is blood.I do believe that as long as they are father and son,not the step one, the affection between them is absolutely true and sincre. Merely, you just do not realize it both in the detailed story and real life.

    Shunya, a very clear and concise entry. I agree that the distance is caused by the differences between these characters. Your last sentence makes me wonder: IS the only connection here because of blood? Pay attention to this relationship as the story progresses.
