Assignment 2: Humorous narrative essays

My inner shrimp from Gary Trudeau and A plague of tics from David Sedaris are both humorous narrative essays. To be frank, I like them both. But apparently, a plague of tics is much longer than my inner shrimp, and gives us more detail description and character inner emotion, so I have to say A plague of tics is the winner this time.
The protagonist of a plague of tics is a little boy who has a lot of weird habits, such as touching his eyes to make “satisfied pain”, to rocket his chair or bed unendingly even if his college roomy thinks he is masturbation himself, to lick the disgusting lights switch…From he’s first grade to college, protagonist gives his mother uncounted troubles.
Let’s see how many times his teachers have to come to his home and have a really “pleasure” drink time with his mother. And don’t you think each one represent a new kind of weird peculiarity. “Miss Chestnut arrived for her visit, I was in my bedroom,, rocking.” “Now she was Katherine. Another few drinks and she’d probably be joining us for our summer vacation.” ““Have a seat and let me get you something cool to drink.” My mother would leave my fifth and then my sixth-grade teachers standing in the breakfast nook while she stepped into the kitchen to crack open a tray of ice.”
Author didn’t just tell us about his peculiarities, by using his growing experience, he let readers experience protagonist’s pain in his growing. Basing on detailed descriptions, he also let readers to laugh, and when they finish laugh, they like to think back about this passage and the experience belong to protagonist and themselves.

  3. Well I like both of them too. And I think they are about the same level...whatever. Shrimp is shorter but lean..And I think u should consider about this "how the writer use humor to accomplish this pursose..."
