Assignment 1: Amir& Baba

Amir is absolutely Baba’s son, so there is no denying that Baba does love him. From the later part of the story, when the cruel war comes, Baba tried his best to let Amir run away from Afghanistan, though he must spend a large amount of money for this.

Whereas, they just do not have the same value, which results in their distant unhealthy relationship. They are two quite different people. Baba is so ambitious a man with great enterprise. He is fond of all exciting challenging things, such as soccer and business. He has a strong will that his son Amir can take over his industry. On the other hand, Amir is a quiet boy who has an amazing gift for writing. He can write a story with sound grammar and interesting style and the most impressive thing about which is that it has irony when he was very young. Unfortunately, his father seems not to care about this. He even does not have the patience to go through the short story written by his son and encourage him to create more of his talent. He arranges the future way for his son without asking his intention. What he wants is to develop Amir as a proper man for business. To some degree, he is not a good father.

Besides, they lack communication. Baba is always busy with business. Without communication, they cannot understand each other properly, which makes some misunderstanding between them, affecting their harmonious relationship.

  2. Qian Pan, you point out some good differences between the two characters. I agree that they do love each other, but have difficulty showing it. Please remember to put in page numbers from the text to show where you found the information. Also, please do not refer to what happens later in the book. I want you to base your posts on what we have read so far.
