After I finishing reading these three chapters,I consider that the relationship between Amir and Hassan is really very complicated.
Maybe for others,Hassan just was Amir's servant.but for Amir,on one side,Hassan was not only his servant, but also his closely friend. He played with him, made kites with him, flied kites with him,and also did other things together. In fact, sometimes, the relationship between Amir and Hassan was more like brothers. They help with each other, care for each other and didn't want to make the other side unhappy. However,on the other side,I think Amir was a little scorn about Hassan. For example,on page 41,when Assef asked Amir why he always talked with Hassan, played with Hassan,Amir just didn't want to acknowledge that and also told them Hassan was just his servant even though he never thought about that. And then, when there were some other children,Amir didn't want to play with Hassan,he just wanted to play with him only when no one else was around(page 41). Last, sometimes,Amir was a little envious about Hassan. When Baba bought kites for them,Amir didn't want Baba do that because he wanted to be Baba's favourite.
For Hassan,Amir was not only his master, but also his friend. On one hand,he always protected Amir from others. On the other hand, they played together, they made kites together and he really understood Amir clearly. On page61,when Amir didn't want to fly a kite,he just told Amir there was no monster. And Amir also said, although he was the one who went to school, the one who could read and write and he was the smart one,Hassan couldn't read anymore but he'd read Amir plenty(on page 61). In fact,Amir believed Hassan very much.
So in conclusion, the relationship between Amir and Hassan was not only friends, but also brothers.
