Question: Should HIV infected mother’s be allowed to breastfeed as a form of postnatal care?
Answer: HIV infected mothers should not be allowed to breastfeed as it poses a risk of infection to the infant.
Because breast feeding can be a medium of transfer of the HIV virus, a causative agent of AIDS, from the mother to the child, it poses a risk to the child’s health and should be avoided.
