I chose this topic because I want to find out whether technology and video games are helping or hurting the youth of America. In my research paper, my audience are going to be my fellow youth, video game makers, parents who usually get technological items and video games for their children and also the advertisers who always have an inpact on whether these things are good or bad.

Testosterone is a hormone responsible for building muscles and for producing body hair and a deep voice. And here is the question...she’s a man or a woman? She’s forced to take gender test.

Is this a gender persecution? Yes it is. So what if she have muscle, Caster is not the only woman athlete with a masculine build.

Should a College Student Starts a Business

Does emotion has an effect on physical health?

An increasing number of people are often suffering from illness these days, but they do not actually know the reason. I find most of them are under great pressure or in an awkward situation.

I believe emotion does have an effect on physical health, because I am the certain case. I have been annoyed by the two American roommates since they moved into my room, the lounge. Because of their noise, not only can I rest well and have a good environment for study, but also get upset and angry all the day. Although I have found RA, even the RHD for decades of times, it does not work. I feel dizzy and exhausted every day and have got the high fever and stomach ache for couples of times. As a result, I want to find out if their bad behavior has a direct influence on my health and ask for more help to try to move off compass. However, according to the school rules, students over 21 or having lived on compass for two years can move out, except they apply for specific problems. I think that reason will be seriously considered. What’s more, now, the school cannot even let me move in a permanent room. Besides, I can acquire more concrete and professional knowledge on this. In addition, it is my first time to write an English argument and it will be hard for me to find the document to support it. After that, I think it will not only do benefit on my argument writing, but also for my other subjects’ essays and papers.
In all, I think other students trapped in such situations like me and people who are not feel themselves for a long time but do not know the reasons will get help from this.

Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present?
Here is a general controversy and contention nowadays on this topic whether people should learn about the past has no value for those of us living in the present? Which means the past and history will help us make progress or not in today’s society. I had to say this problem sure is a dilemma. In the light of this statement, to some degree, a deluge of people who hold the viewpoint that the life we living in are totally based on the past, we definitely can learn a lot from our past, especially our history. Because of history plays an important role in our daily life, we cannot ignore the past. However, about the same problem, other people believe that the important thing that we need to do is facing to present and cherish today’s time we have and put effort to do everything for today and tomorrow. Obviously, they think we do not need to look backward.

As far as I am concern, from learning about the past, we can see more clearly about what had happened, what are happening and what will happen. Basic to any understanding of present knowledge is the conclusion and summary with long period time’s accumulation. Another way look at this problem is, say, past knowledge to modern society is what foundation to a grand mansion. Scarcely can we set up a skyscraper without groundwork! How can I imagine such a rapidly developing world without past supporting can long endure! And, I will find more information through my later on research to support my argument.

Well, about the research, I never done thing like this, so, I really interested in this research, I am looking forward to do this research and hopefully I can learn some useful tips for my future study. Also, I hope I can find more information to support my idea and show people who considers the past is unnecessary, I want to let them know how important the value of past and history are!

The Unrealistic Perception of beauty the fashion industry portrays to society

Body image is a major issue among female teens and young adults in society today. Models parading the catwalk and photographed in fashion magazines are portraying a very unhealthy form of beauty. Girls are looking up to these women who are far too skinny as role models and aspiring to look like them.

In my paper I would like to show both arguments on this topic. People in the fashion industry have different points of view. Some are firing models whose body mass is far too low while others are still hiring and endorsing anorexic-looking models. The objective is to prove through different sources that the consequences of condoning models in this state far exceed the benefits. Whether it be obtaining a quick buck and showing society an unrealistic impression of perfection and beauty.

Casual Analysis Proposal: Breastfeeding in HIV Infected mothers

HIV and Aids has become a major issue in our current society. With recent research showing that prevalence of the disease is rising by the day.One major concern, among others is the breast feeding of infants born to HIV infected mothers. With the main question being. To what extent is the HIV status of an infant born to a HIV infected mother affected through Breastfeeding?
My paper will propose that, the care of kids born to HIV infected mothers should be by the means of artificial breast milk. In a move to contain prevalence of the disease. It will also propose that, postnatal clinics should be given legal rights to make this judgment after conception of the new born. In order to avoid a case of mis-judgment by the mother. This mis-judgment may be caused due to exterior factors such as financial income. However, I will also state that HIV positive infected mothers should know better, than to have kids in the first place. This idea bringing into play, the importance of getting the world population to know their HIV status and helping them obtain advice accordingly.
My biggest problem may be, creating firm evidence that will ensure artificial post natal care will be given to children born to HIV infected mothers .My audience will be a highly educated lot, spanning from Doctors and Epidemiologists, to Smaller Health Workers alike. All working in both governmental and non-governmental institutions. Finally and most important of all, the mothers themselves, who are the band wagon of this system.

31. When should parents let teens make their own decisions?

In present-day society,Parents always pay all attention to the children's growth, which major he should chose?what kind of car he should buy?...parents worry all about their children.Their expect to arrange everything for children. But it may leads to rebellion. Should parents let teens make their own decisions? As for me,parents should let it be,don't influence children too much, don't always expect children to walk on the road built by parents, because every life is unique, can't be a copy of their parents'.Let teens learn to make decisions by themselves, which is good to form a sence of independent. My target is the parents who have troubles to get on with teens, they don't know how to deal with the preblems about teens' growth and worried too much.

Should cigarette smoking be alowed inside the building?

We cannot stop people smoking because some people rely on cigarettes. In my opinion, cigarettes like Double-Edged knife which could harm people and cause lung cancer, or, on the other hand, benefit them. However, smokers should think about others when they are smoking. As a matter of fact, passive smoker get harmed more than smoker. In other words, I disagree smoking inside the building strongly. I want to learn the harmfulness of passive smoking. Thus, through my research the harmfulness of passive smoking be better recognized by smokers and hopefully stop smoking inside the building.

Is the death penalty effective?

It is not a new controversial topic that whether the dealth penalty is effective or not, but this topic is still heating up all these years. Some scholars argue that the government should abolish the dealth penalty in which they insist means little to the social security, but others still hold the troditional idea that the death penalty decreases the voilence in society effectively. To me, I'd prefer the formor idea. This topic attracts me because my major in China was law before but I have never do any research about this. So by this chance, I want to study more about the function of the death penalty. I think my interest group would be the law major students and people who interest in politics.

Does age matter in relationships?

According to my friends' around me and my experience, I think age really de matter in realationship. Because during the different age, the education they received are different, and they experienced the different current events, also they were in the different science and technology period, they face the different temptation, and even they text the different lifestyle, so this becomes the generation gap. And also when two people in different ages, when they face each other, because of their age, they would feel unnatural with each one, I think this is also the ethics works. I also have an idea that the reason age works in realationship is that they have no the same topic. So I think age does a lot in realationships.

Topic Proposal: To Step On The Grass Or Not

My idea for a topic has not finally decided yet, but I'd like to write the topic--If it is allowed to step on grass in cities of China. For in our country, everyone knows that to step on a manmade green is forbidden or even illegal. But in the U.S., it seems nobody cares about this. My major is Bio and I stand on the side which allows people to step on grass. It is somehow good for this grass to be step on in bio field. But maybe in China there will be too much steps and there will be problems of pollution. The potential audience will probably be the CHN city planners.

Should cigarette smoking be banned?

By google, we can find that the population of smoker in the world is about 1.5 billion now.
As we all know about it, cigarette smoking is harmful to human's health. Various diseases comes from cigaretee smoking, and these deases lead the cigarette smoking be the biggest mortality rate than any other diseases. And on another way, how can cigarette attract such a big group of people, and even the number is still growing as a fast speed. Some suggest that the goverment should take some kinds of policy to avoid the big killer: cigaretee smoking.
Most of the smoker believe that although smoking is harmful to their health, but the benefit of smoking is much important than the harm it brings. By a survey of a group of smokers who come from China, They support some benefit of smoking. Firstly, smoking can refresh oneself when people were tired. Secondly, smoking can decrease the pressure of one's job or live. And so on. And they protest that cigatette is their freedom, nobody can make the cigarette smoking be banned. And I think so.
From this agument, I think we can get many informations about the cigarette smoking, such like the diseases caused by smoking.

Does Advertising Leave People a Positive Effect?

According to the survey, a person would be given about 3000 AD in one day. And the AD here include TV, radio, magazine and internet ext. But, does AD really affect people that much? Or how many changing we can see after we receive that much AD information. Does AD leave people a positive effect or not?
Sometimes it depends on the quality of Ads which we can check the survey whether the Ads is attractive or not on many channels. By analysis these information, we can make conclusion about what kind of Ads is popular and can really gain the profit for the product, what kind of Ads is hated and useless, by calculate the percentage of how many popular Ads in the whole Ads we accepted everyday, we can make a judge about whether the Ads leave people a positive effect.

Argument Essay

The amount of kids
According to the current news, more and more babies were born. When mentioned this issue, some people think it is an excellent situation, while others hold the opinion about the opposite side of this issue. As to me I support the second idea. The reason why I chose agree with the second one is that the increasing quantity of the kids bring numerous problems for our society, such as job field or living field. What’s more, having so many children may bring press for a family. In order to overcome this issue some countries made many plans. For instance, China has a plan called “Family Plan” which was made for almost 25 years to control the amount of the kids.
In conclusion, different governments have different ideas about this argument. But making a plan about the quantity of children is not only good for families but also great for our society.

Argument

Use animals to test experiment

Weather people should use animals to test experiments is a popular issue. In the modern society, scientists usually invent something with numerous and reduplicative tests. However, how they make sure the results of their experiments are what they want and accurate? Of course, they use animals instead of human for testing. Is it fair to use animals on testing? Animals suffer from experiment in order to get a result of experiments is not fair, but it is the only thing we can do to save people or even improve our world. Although government had tried to prevent animals and ban people use animals on testing, the result was terrible. In 1937, US government only forbid companies selling drug after it hurt people. Consequently, there was an event that the drug killed more than 100 people. Then, government allowed scientists use animals on safety testing before drugs mass-produced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_testing). As a result, the only thing we can do is decrease patient on animals during experiments.

Assignment 4: Topic Proposal

Guidelines for choosing a topic
A good topic will:
- be debatable or controversial. It MUST have two sides, and you MUST pick one side to defend.
- be supported with research on both sides. This MUST be a topic that you can find evidence to support your argument.
- be relevant today. You should be able to find CURRENT research on your topic.
- not be over-used. For example, abortion is an issue that too many people use in writing a persuasive argument.
- be of personal interest to you. If you have no interest in your topic, you will have little enjoyment in the research and writing process, and the end result will probably not be as good.

About.com has a good list of potential topics if you are struggling to find one. Visit http://homeworktips.about.com/od/essaywriting/a/argumenttopics.htm

Please post a topic proposal (minimum of 1 paragraph) to the blog. Your proposal should include:
- an explanation of the topic (what is the issue?) and your stance (what side will you be defending?)
- why you chose this topic
- what you hope learn through the research process
- who you see as a potential target audience (besides the obvious - members of this class)

Assignment 3: Amir & Hassan

I love this feeling. Lying on my little but cozy bed, feeling a bit chill wind blows my face; make me feel good and refresh, I am read the Kite Runner. Be honest, I feel sort of I am addicting to this book, I can’t put it down when I started to read it, it is such an interesting and unforgettable story that happened in Afghanistan! I even was trying to look up to the Internet for the movie , because I want to know more about it. It also is a good topic to talk with my friends when I am hanging out, and they keep asking me what happened and the details about the story. Anyways, I love this book.

All right, let us talk about how complicated the relationship between Amir and Hassan. I can’t just easily to say they are more like servant and mater, because there are sometimes they two like brothers and good friends, say, they two sometime share the ups and downs as well as help each other. One time Hassan gives Amir some encouragements, which is only closed friend does that.

However, here is what I am want to say, if you read the chapters before 7, apparently, the time that they are like brothers and closed friends are really rare, merely few times. It is, the relationship between them is more like servant and master. I had to say Amir is really mean to Hassan even Hassan treat Amir like his brother, too many reasons to let Amir hates Hassan and want to insult him as well as be a servant. We can easily say how bad Amir treats Hassan and how loyalty Hassan to Amir from the dialogue in Chapter six Page 53-54: “He smiled. ‘Sit with me, Amir agha.’ I dropped next to him; lay on a thin patch of snow, wheezing. … ‘I don’t know. Would you?’ ‘I’d sooner eat dirt,’ he said with a look of indignation. … ‘Eat dirt if I told you to,’ I said. I was being cruel, like when I’d taunt him if he didn’t know some big word’’ So, as we can see, there has some special relationship between them and most of their relationship are really bad even we can see animosity between them.

Later on, there is a perfect example to show the relationship between them is master and servant, because Hassan doe everything that Amir call for, even eat dirt like says above. In Chapter five, page 43, “They then turned around, walked away. I watched them walk down the hill and disappear behind a wall. Hassan was trying to tuck the slingshot in his waist with a pair of trembling hand. His mouth curled up into something that was supposed to be reassuring smile.” Here, I can tell Hassan wants to protect Amir who is his master instead of friend or brother.

All in all, there are plenty of examples in the book can proof that Amir is Hassan’s master without doubt.

the relationship between Amir and Hassan

After I read chapter 5, 6 and 7, I feel the relationship between Amir and Hassan is complicated and mainly seems like servant and master, however, it includes a little relationship of friends.
To Amir, he was always confused concerning the relationship between them. We can be aware of that in page 41, it said“But he’s not my friend! I almost blurted. He’s my servant! Had I thought that? Of course I hadn’t. I hadn’t. I treated Hassan well, just like a friend, better even, more brother.” They always play together for fun. We can see their relationship from that. In page 46, “I wished I too had some kind of scar that would beget Baba’s sympathy. It wasn’t fair. Hassan hadn’t done anything to earn Baba’s affections; He’d just been born with that stupid harelip.” We can know that Amir look down upon Hassan. He thought Hassan is just his servant.
On the other hand, Hassan treated Amir as a good friend and he is loyal to his friend. Hassan threw himself into the beach to protect Amir When Assef wanted to hurt Amir. In page 42, he said “Please leave us alone.” Then he drove them away. But Hassan always was obedient to Amir.
To sum up, I would think the relationship between them is servant and master more than frends.
Through chapter 5, 6 and 7, I think the realationship between amir and hassan is only master and servant.
According to these three chapters we can simply find out that hassan is so loyal to amir he regards amir as his brothers and even can fight for him, but amir just think hassan as his servent. Now let's how hassan loyal to amir. At other child's home, hassan protected amir from others, he encouraged amie to fly the kite in the morning, helped amir to running the kite, playing poker card and loss in purpose, understanding amir even amir shouting at him, gived amir courage before the match. And in page 54, "eat dirt if i told you," "If you told, I would." from these things we can see how hassan loyal to amir and regard him as his brother, and what moving me the most is that after the match hassan running the kite for amir and then he was stoping at the corner and facing the violent and he still said taht amir was his best friend and didn't hand in the kite.
But on the contrary, how did amir response hassan? He told lies to hassan just because he wants to be alone with his father, shouting at hassan when he was upset, and even saw hassan raping by other three children but give him a hand and at last run away. After that, he not noly mentaion about that and give no comfort to him, but also told lies to his father and hassan's father that he didn't know anything about what happened on that day.
So, we can see how brave and loyal hassan is and how cowardice and recreance amir is.

Amir and Hassan

I think that Amir and Hassan's relationship is somewhat brother like, they spend most of there time together and they have known each other all there lives. They treat each other like brothers and share a lot of things "that whole winter, Hassan and i took turns wearing the ha" pg 44.
Although they are close, Amir is jealous of Hassan and Ali's father and son relationship. Hassan and Ali are very close compared to Amir and Baba, " .....Ali wrapped his arms around us" pg 35. Ali treats Amir like his son too and thats why they are very close. Even though Amir treats him like a brother, he still tends to do some things that show lack of respect and to show that Hassan is inferior. Amir does not stand up for Hassan during the kite tournament and this was a sign that Amir thinks less of Hassan. Therefore i think that even though Hassan and Amir are very close and are practically brothers, Amir still knows that Hassan is more disadvantaged than him and doesn't have all the opportunities that he has so in some cases he treats him like a servant.

amir and hassans friendship is not a master/servant but a friendship one.

The way i see it, Amir and Hassan are more like friends than master/servant. This can be seen when the two form a kite cutting team enabling them to win the tournament(P.g. 66), or when assef harasses them, but hassan pulls out a sling shot, while amir is trying to talk to him. However, Amir can't help but feel envious of hassan. These is because in his point of view, hassan gets everything that amir wants, like babas attention. For instance, when baba hires a surgeon to fix hassan's lip scar, amir says, "I wish i too had some kind of scar that would beget baba's sympathy". (pg. 46) This makes amir act a little bit mean towards hassan by teasing him. This feeling seems to be so deep, that he searches for hassan after hassan runs for the kite that might finally win baba's approval.

Even though Amir is jealous of hassan, we can see that he still considers him as friend. For instance Amir bites his fist really hard that it starts to bleed(p.g 77), when he sees his friend, hassan getting hurt by assef, but he's to helpless to do anything about it. This shows that Hassan and amir's friendship is a true one, and not that of a master/servant.

Assignment3: Amir and Hassan

After reading chapters 5, 6 and 7 of THE KITE RUNNER, I consider the relationship between Amir and Hassan as much more like master and servant than brothers and friends, from the latter part of the novel, via Rahim Khan, we can learn that they are indeed brothers, just born from different mothers, though .In addition, they are breast by the same woman and grows up together.

As for me, friends are based on mutual respect, one should respect another, no matter what classes they are in. However, from the way that Amir treats Hassan, it is undeniable that they are master and servant. Amir likes to play tricks on Hassan, only to show off his knowledge from textbook in school, because Hassan has never gone to a school. On the other hand, Hassan can read Amir well and his amazing born talent is running for the kite properly, which make Amir envious and worries that his excellence will claim the love from Baba, making Baba and Amir a deeper gap. Besides, he likes to talk to Hassan in a order voice. When they won the kite tournament, he wanted Hassan to run the kite for him. “Hassan! Come back with it!” he said. They are not equal at all. Amir gets accustomed to Hassan’s loyalty and service, without any appreciation. Hassan serves Amir every morning for his breakfast. He could prepare Amir the drink, even blows to cool it. Flagitiously, he takes advantage of Hassan’s loyalty to relieve his shame and anxiety in return. When Hassan was teased and punched by Assef and another two boys, which resulted from going against Assef to save Amir last time and not giving away to hand in the blue kite which is the winning prize for Amir this time, Amir only stood behind and saw what happened. He even thought that nothing was free in this world and maybe Hassan was the price to win Baba. How can a child so mean and cruel?! Moreover, Assef and Amir himself both realized that Amir never viewed Hassan as friends. Because Amir only plays with Hassan when there is no guest around. For Amir, Hassan is only a tool to kill time. In terms of the background of that time, the temporal people would not recognize that Hazara can be their master’ friends, just like the merchant who gave Amir Hassan’s direction, who said “He is? Lucky Hazara, having such a concerned master. His father should get on his knees, sweep the dust at your feet with his eyelashes.” The prejudice on serious class system also prohibits the pure friendship.

As a result, Amir and Hassan relate more like servant/master.

Assignment 3: Amir & Hassan

As for me, Amir and Hassan has alwasys been a couple of close friends. The relationship of Master and Servant is just like a cover, the inside is kind of love between family members. As we can see from page 41, " But he's not my friend! I almost blurted. He's my serbant! Had I really thought that? Of course I hadn't. I hadn't. I treated Hassan well, just like a friend, better even, more like a brother...." That's means the friend inside, the friend indeed. Amir knows Hassan verywell, "Hassan and I exchanged a smile. We'd waiting for his call all day..."--just like brothers. From page 38 to page 43, the argue between the children has been ended by the effort from Amir, who want to protect him beloved friend.

Assignment 3:Amir and Hassan

The relationship between Amir and Hasson is complicated。

It is obviously that Hassan regards Amir as a good friend definitely, never tell lie to Amir, sacrifices himself for Amir.In kite tournament, he tells the dream to Amir to cheer him up to face to the nervous, he is rather pure and trusts Amir all the time ,doing everthing for Amir.It comes from the instinct as a friend more than the conscious of servant.

But let think abou Amir's inner opinion, does he treat Hassan as a friend more than a master? No,he always treat curtly, telling lies, never think about Hassan's feeling. He is selfish to Hassan, he even feels envy when his father choice gift for Hassan,he wish his father wouldn't do that,he doesn't want to share any thing with Hassan.Because Hassan's low statues, his ignorant. In the kite tournament,he had Hassan hold the string and sucked the blood dry, blotted his finger against his jeans, how he did it if he treat Hassan as a really good friend? when he can't find Hassan and asked a old merchant about Hassan, the merchant asked what is Hassan to him?Amir ‘s answer surprised me ,why him answered “He's our servant’s son”rather than“He's my froend”?Maybe it is a shame for him to admit Hassan is his firend, because Hassan is a Hazara,he is only his srevant‘s son ,he is his servant,he has no qualication to be his friend.
As the story developed, when he found Hassan was being bullied by Assef,he choice to pretect himself ,pretend not to notice and run away, why he does it if he really about Hassan?Obviously,he treat Hassan as a servant more than a friend.

Assignment 3: Amir & Hassan

The relationship between Amir and Hassan is like brothers. " But he is not my frind...no one else was around?" (page 41) is expressing Amir's emotional conflict in his mind. However, Hassan doesn't think Amir is his master because he fights with Assef for Amir on page 41. Hassan encourage Amir in the morning of kite competition on page 62. In addition, he says congratulations to Amir first on page 66. He is with Amir every day and he thinks Amir is his important person.
Amir is sometimes jealous of Hassan about Baba's attitude toward Hassan. It's as if older brother feels jealous of his younger brother like my brother and I. This is well indicated on page 61 "I turned my gaze to our rooftop...he was waving his hand at me or Hassan." Amir can't save Hassan when he is attacked by Assef with a blue kite. Some readers may say this is the evidence that their relationship is servant and master but the idea is wrong. In this world, how many people could save their brothers if they were in that situation. I couldn't do that.
For these reasons, the relationship between Amir & Hassan is not Master and Servant, and more like brothers than friends.

Assignmet3 Amir &Hassan

After I finishing reading these three chapters,I consider that the relationship between Amir and Hassan is really very complicated.
Maybe for others,Hassan just was Amir's servant.but for Amir,on one side,Hassan was not only his servant, but also his closely friend. He played with him, made kites with him, flied kites with him,and also did other things together. In fact, sometimes, the relationship between Amir and Hassan was more like brothers. They help with each other, care for each other and didn't want to make the other side unhappy. However,on the other side,I think Amir was a little scorn about Hassan. For example,on page 41,when Assef asked Amir why he always talked with Hassan, played with Hassan,Amir just didn't want to acknowledge that and also told them Hassan was just his servant even though he never thought about that. And then, when there were some other children,Amir didn't want to play with Hassan,he just wanted to play with him only when no one else was around(page 41). Last, sometimes,Amir was a little envious about Hassan. When Baba bought kites for them,Amir didn't want Baba do that because he wanted to be Baba's favourite.
For Hassan,Amir was not only his master, but also his friend. On one hand,he always protected Amir from others. On the other hand, they played together, they made kites together and he really understood Amir clearly. On page61,when Amir didn't want to fly a kite,he just told Amir there was no monster. And Amir also said, although he was the one who went to school, the one who could read and write and he was the smart one,Hassan couldn't read anymore but he'd read Amir plenty(on page 61). In fact,Amir believed Hassan very much.
So in conclusion, the relationship between Amir and Hassan was not only friends, but also brothers.

Assignment 3: Amir & Hassan

The relationship between Amir and Hassan it’s sometimes complicated. They are best friends but they are also like brothers.
Sometimes Amir doesn’t like Hassan, because Amir wants all attention from his father. In the winter 1975, Amir sees for the last time Hassan run for a kite. Amir wants to win this tournament because he wants to impress Baba. Hassan tells Amir in the morning of the kite tournament that he had a dream. A dream about Hassan and Amir and how they were swimming on the lake. Here Amir trust Hassan and follow him in the water, pg59 “there’s no monster….and before anyone can stop you, you dive into the water, start swimming away. I follow you in and we’re both swimming.” We can see here that they are like brothers, they trust each other.
After Amir wins the annual kite fights he looks for Hassan and he saw Hassan talks with Assef. Assef tells Hassan that he is not really Amir’s friends, but only his servant. Hassan have doubts now about Amir.
On page 58 Amir tells Hassan he will buy him a tv. “Hassan’s face brightened” I think Amir wants Hassan to be happy and sometimes they are like brothers. Amir have a good father but in the same time he wants his father just for him. That’s why their relationship it’s complicated.

Assignment 3: Amir and Hasssan

The animosity between Amir and Hasssan is apparent in the text. Their relationship seems to be a complicated one because there is constantly mixed feelings. But after reading the chapters I have come to the conclusion that the meaning of their friendship meant two different things to both parties involved.

Amir is desparate for his father’s approval, this is why he gets jealous and envious of Hassan when Baba him attention.I also think there is a possibility that Amir is just being friendly to Hassan because if he treated him with disrespect his father would disapprove of him even more because Baba had such a soft for him.

When it came down to tough situations Amir’s thoughts went straight to him labeling Hassan as the servant boy and as one of the ‘flat-nosed’ Hazaras. We see this on page 41 when the bullying occurred when they were walking one day. The every first thought he had was, “ but he is not my friend! I almost blurted bout. He’s my servant!” If Amir truly respected and believed in their friendship he would have shouted a comeback out immediately to stand up for his friend and protect his rights as a human being.

Amir even resented the fact that Baba paid for Hassan to have plastic surgery on his harelip. On page 46 he even goes to the extent to state that he wished that he had a scar to gain Baba’s sympathy, he didn’t think it was fair.

We can see Amir’s approach to Hassan was one like a master to their servant. I think we can see this even in the simple things. Even though Hassan was a much better kite runner and Amir admitted to it he assigned him as his assistant in the competitions.

Hassan would do anything for his friend even confessing he would eat dirt for him on page 54, “ if you asked I would”. He clearly loved his friend without limitations and took their friendship as one he cherished most in his life. Amir was playing a sick game with him. He loved taunting him about the things he could find that he held over him, like his vocabulary. Since he was so jealous about the relationship he had had with Baba, he focused on Hassan’s short-comings to make him feel better about himself.

Therefore, the two boys have total opposite approaches. Hassan is a true friend to Amir, but Amir sees Hassan as just a servant who he is pressured to be nice to him to avoid more disapproval from his father.

Assignment 3 Amir and Hassan

Do Amir and Hassan are friends or brother or master/servent? I think this isn’t a question should be answered yes or no.
Their relationship could be divided into 3 parts.
First of all, they grow up together, in the past twelve years; they live together and share the same memory of anything. For example, they prepare the kite tournament together; they play cards and chess together. And from the deepest part of Amir’s heart, he is a little bit jealous of Hassan and he is not happy or scared what he can’t enjoy his father’s love alone. This is common happened in the relationship of brothers.
But, they all know the statue of themselves pretty clear, therefore, sometimes, they can’t be too intimate, Amir always hear someone else by his side told him they are not friends such like the jerk Assef and the merchant he found in his way to look for Hassan even though he doesn’t believe it or care about it. But, basically, they are still master/servant in some particular place such as Hassan has to serve Amir to brew black tea for breakfast.
And I think the statue of each other in their heart is no equal, Hassan think there are friends as like he told Assef and this point could be proved by many details in the passage. For example, he encourages Amir to fight for the final champion, and always ask him to hang out, the most important thing is he already think he have to loyalty to this friendship as he prefer to be hit to give the blue kit to Assef. But in Amir’s heart, he didn’t think Hassan is his best friends or anything, when he has a guest , he never invite Hassan to play with them, when he heard someone humiliated Hassan, he never talk them back for Hassan. Because he is too selfish and jealous and such a coward.

Assignment 3: Amir and Hassan

It is complicated to explain the relationship between Amir and Hassan--- as to Amir, sometimes he treated Hassan as his “playmate”, and for a few times he treated Hassan like brother. But Hassan always looked Amir as his master. From chapter 5, 6 and 7, I learned that in Amir’s heart he did not have a specific character for Hassan.

In fact, Amir thought that Hassan was his rival--- the rival who can get Baba’s love. “We let him wrap us in his arm and, for a brief insane moment, I was glad about whatever had happened that night.” (Page 36, chapter 5). Maybe if Baba did not give so much love to Hassan, Amir could treat Hassan as his friend actually. Whenever Amir saw Baba showed his love to Hassan, Amir would feel reluctant. What’s more, Amir even hated Hassan just because of the “sharing love” which should belong to Amir totally. Put away Amir’s envi, let’s seem his another feeling about Hassan. “ My smile broadened. That was another thing about Hassan. He always knew when to say the right thing…”(Page37, chapter 5) . From this we can see that Amir thought Hassan knew him very well---they were friends when concentrated on the same things. No matter what kind of character Amir looked Hassan as, Hassan always treated Amir as his master--- he listened to whatever Amir said, and he was eager to protect Amir when crisis came. “ Hassan was trying to tuck the slingshot in his waist with a pair of trembling hands.” (Page 43)--- even though Hassan was afraid of Assef, he still tried his best to prevent his master, Amir.

In a word, Amir did not have a specific emotion to Hassan, but Hassan looked Amir as his master forever.

Amir&Hassan

In the following three chapters, the plot is very interesting and complicated, and the relationship between Amir and Hassan is very complex. Amir didn't think Hassan is his friend or brother at all, but he still didn't think he is his servant completely.

Hassan like a protector for Amir because he always protect Amir. In the chapter 5, there is another boy appeared and his name is Assef, whose father is Amir's father's friend. He wanted to bully Amir and Hassan. At that time, Hassan retreated behind because three boys closed in (Page 39). In this section, I think Hassan can contribute everything for Amir because he is Amir's friend, brother and servant. He is loyal like his father and he can protect Amir forever. This kind of plots appeared not only one time in the book. Moreover, Assef want to hurt Amir after he abused Hassan. At that time, Hassan bend down and stand up immediately to protect Amir (page 41). This is another example to illustrate that Hassan is a protecter for Amir.

Then, Let's talking about Amir's emotion. Assef baffled Hassan and said some bad words to Hassan. He though that Hassan is Amir's friend. Then, there is a very intricate description about Amir's mind. He's not my friend, He's my servant (Page 41). Although he liked Hassan, he never played with Hassan when there was another kid played with him. In addition, He can only comforted Hassan but never said any word to protect Hassan when others abused him. Consequently, I think Amir regard Hassan as a servant more than friend and brother.

In conclusion, the relationship between Hassan and Amir is very complicated, but it close to servant.

assignment3 Amir and Hassan

Although Hassan alway have to prepare the breakfast and do any house work for Amir every morinng, enytime as a servant. But ut seems like Amir's father like Hassan like Hassan more than Amir. But I think his is too young too understand this. After I read chapter 5,6 and 7, I think although Hassan was one year young than Amir, but he is more mature than Amir. Because he is a servant's child. What he done, waht his experience were much more than Amir, so what he know would more than Amir. Amir is just a little boy. Many thing had happened to him is just what he though, actually it almost always not like that. Because he want more love from his father than Hassan. He don't know a father is always love his own child than others. Because Amir want to got all the love from father, so when his want to buy a very good kite, but his father always buy the same thing for Hassan. Amir's though is just a little brother of Hassan's. I think Amir and Hassan is more like brother than a friends or servant. They almost do the things toghter, like every thing. During I read this book, I always compare Amir and hassan's situation with me and older brother.
As a child, a little boy I also want get more love from father and mother. Actuall Amir doesn't put Hassn as his servant. He has put Hassan as a brother, and more than a big brother.Hassan help Amir a lot.Like a big brather. Because I also have a older brother. I always want to get more love from our parents. I was tired to do things better than my brother. So I can understand whatt he said, and how he feels. After the tournament, Hassan was gone, but Amir found him no where, and he has tired his bset to found him.

Assignment 3: Amir & Hassan

The relationship between Amir and Hassan is hard to depict. From these 7 chapters, I feel that the relationship between them most like servant and master. But sometime, I can also feel that they like friends or brothers.

For Amir, his opinions are very contradictious. Sometime he feels that he and Hassan are friends or brothers. When Assef said they are friend, he didn’t negative this, although he didn’t agree it. In page 36, “But he’s not my friend! I almost blurted. He’s my servant,” and, “I treated Hassan well, just like a friend, better even, more like a brother.” This feeling for Amir is just a little. He most thinks that Hassan was his servant, was his playmate just when he need Hassan. This is also in page 36, “I play with Hassan only when no one else was around.” And there is another example to show us that in Amir’s opinion, Hassan most like a servant, not a friend. He didn’t help Hassan, when Hassan need help. In page 65, “I just watched. Paralyzed,” When Assef would bully Hassan. Ann the second time, Amir also chose running away. Amir said the reasons, one is because he was cowardly, and another one, “Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay, to win Baba.” “He was just a Hazara, wasn’t he?” I think this is real reason. I feel this world is not impartial, for Amir, although he feel compunction, Hassan just is the “price”, is “our servant’s son”. But in Hassan’s opinion, Amir is the most important people in his life. He did every thing just want Amir happy. He just said, “I’d sooner eat dirt,” and, “If you asked, I would,” in page 49, and he believe every thing that Amir said. But we can’t deny that Hassan has a hierarchy sense in his mind.

So my opinion about the relationship between Amir and Hassan is servant and master. Although sometimes they like friends or brothers.

Assignment3:Amir and Hassan

Although I hope Amir and Hassan are brothers or just friends very much during I was reading the story. But it is to hard to find out much clear points to support this.I have to acknowledge that Amir and Hassan are more like servant and master much than the others.
"He always knew when to say the right thing." This is the content on the page 37, this is the typical thought of a master to a servant. And this also can not be the thought between brothers or even friends. And then, Hassan went to look for the blue kite after they won the Kite-fighting tournament, "Come back with it."(page67) Just these words to Hassan, Amir faced to all the honour and all these congratulatory words by himself. And he didn't felt what's not right, even without alittle Humiliated or ashamed. He treat anything Hassan done for him just as Hassan's compulsory.
At last, the last paragraph of the section seven. "It happened just the way I'd imagined" By a different angle for this, Amir made use of Hassan for what he had imagined.
By the way, I really do want Amir and Hassan are brothers. But "Kite runner" is not a fairy tale, what I hope can only be what I hope. And the most important part of the chapter seven is the things happend on Hassan which I do not want talked about it. It really made me feel bad...

Assignment 3: Amir & Hassan

The relationship between Amir and Hassan, I think, is some kind of complicated. Sometimes, they are normal as friends. Sometimes, close as brothers. Sometimes, cold as just servant and master. But to be honest, I'd more like to say they are friends.
They are friends, because they share lots of happy memories which they made together. When Amir wanted to withdraw the game, it is Hassan who gave him courage at that point time.About that dream, which is my favorite part of this chapter I think, the author used lots of dialogue in his description. "'I don't know. Maybe we should go home.' Then he stepped toward me and, in a low voice, said something that scared me a little.'Remember, Amir agha. There's no monster, just a beautiful day.'"(Page 61,Chapter 7)These sentences are simple, normal but really impressive to me. It reminds me an old saying of " A friend in need is the friend indeed."
Meanwhile, I have to accept that Amir sometimes shows his jealousy. One example form these chapters is on Page 51, Chapter 6. It is about the buying kites part and said that " If I changed my mind and asked for a bigger and fancier kite, Baba would buy it for me--but then he'd buy it for Hassan too. Sometimes I wish he wouldn't do that. Wished he'd let me be the favorite." This is obviously his jealousy. But I absolutely don't agree with the idea that this shows Amir takes Hassan as a servant. It is undeniable that sometimes we all do the same as Amir did in the book that being jealous of someone in our daily life. But we also can not deny that even we would be jealous but they are still our friends in our hearts, ain't they?So this jealousy Amir shows still can not reject my opinion that they are friends.

Assignment 3:Amir and Hassan

In my opinion, the relationship between Amir and Hassan is more like servant and master than others.

Amir is lacking of love from his father and he wants to get attention from Baba even got some disabilities like Hassan. He is jealous because Baba cares Hassan more than him. I think, Amir is disdaining Hassan even though they seems play together sometimes. As Assef said in page72,”Haveyou ever wondered why he never includes you in games when he has guests? Why he only plays with you when no one else is around? ”why? ”Because to him, you are nothing but an ugly pet.” Is this true? Amir confirmed it in page 77, ”He was just a Hazara, wasn’t he?” He can make decision to run because he is afraid of Assef. But how can he make up excuses and get love based on Hassan’s adversity. After this accident, the situation doesn’t get better. Amir is feeling guilty but he didn’t show any love to Hassan. What’s worse, he is more mean to Hassan. When Baba ask him to go Cinema Aryana with Hassan, he shows jealous.

To Hassan, “Amir agha and I are friends.” He will do everything for his friend even to eat dirt. How loyal Hassan is! On the other hand, to Amir, he always laugh at Hassan and he may care about him. But he never avows Hassan as his friend, as he said,” he’s our servant’s son.”

Assignment 3 : Amir & Hassan's Relationship

Amir and Hassan's relationship is one that is deceiving at first glance. When the writer introduces us to Amir and Hassan it looks like they have a mutual relationship, but in actual sense their relationship is actually faltering. In the sense that, Amir actually begins to question whether he really is Hassan's friend or master. This is shown on page 41, when Amir says in an after-thought "...Why did I play with Hassan, only when no one else was around..."In this scene, Assef who happens to be bullying Hassan and Amir, clearly shows the prejudice that he has towards the Hazarajat and when he asks Amir how he can call Hassan his friend, the first thought that comes to Amir was , Hassan is actually more of his servant than friend. This thought actually spurs him into a stance where he questions their relationship, and how much he was willing to sacrifice for Hassan. As a reader, this scene is very important because the characters introduced here, later spur the highlight of the book as depicted on page 1 chapter 1, when the writer says "...I have been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty six years."It later reveals to us what "alley" he is talking about, and explains the importance of the words on page 2 "...for you a thousand times over."
Hassan however in this relationship gives his best.He is willing to go the whole mile just for the sake of Amir and does not have any second doubts on this, as depicted on page 54. Amir asks Hassan if he would Eat dirt, if he told him to. Hassan then gives Amir a deep searching gaze before telling him "...if you asked, i would."He then asks Amir if he would ever ask him to do such a thing .Amir says no, but his later statement leaves the reader in a catch 22 situation, as the reader questions the foundation of their relationship, is it really fake? ,this is because he says " And that's the problem with people who mean evevrything they say. They think everyone else does to."
Well later on Amir's fear finally comes true when Hassan is trapped in an alley by Assef , Wali and Kamal. Assef assault's Hassan because Hassan wouldn't give him the blue kite which he had swore to get for Amir . In this instance, Amir who is watching does not do anything to help Hassan, infact he runs and while runnning he goes even further to reveal a thought that crushes any hope of their relationship being true.He says,"He was just a Hazara wasnt he?"As if this is not enough . Later, After Assef leaves and Hassan returns with the flag, Amir actually scans the kite for any rips before asking Hassan how he is doing? This goes to show how materialistic his view of Hassan was.And finally quells the suspense spurred by the writer in his introduction.
Personally, I believe that the relationship between Hassan and Amir was a one -sided relationship; Hassan loved Amir as a brother, while Amir loved Hassan in a biased materialistic manner like a master would love a servant.

Humorous Nattive Essay

The two writters all very successful about writting essays. There words are very humorous and attracting readers attention. However, their styles are different in several places. I prefer the first essay which is My Inner Shrimp that wroten by garry Trudeau.
The first essay is about a sorrowful history. The protagonist was very short when he was young. He was very inferior about his heigh because every people laught at him and make fun with him. There is a event which happened in the afternoon. He moved to a place that was very sorrow that was very different with his neighbour's room. His neighbour's bedroom had a brick warren pf duplexes, good look windows and others(page 2). However, his room was a little more than six feet(page 2). He went to the sales office and asked it, but the result of it was insulted. Although he is very tall after he grew up, he also very inferior because of the bad experience before.
I prefer it because it is a real and impressive essay which described the emothion of the protagonist very successful. The essay tell readers a sad history and remind us not to laught at people, because it will give them bad influence.

Assignment2: Humorous Narrative Essay

Gary Trudeau ("My Inner Shrimp") and David Sedaris ("Plague of Tics") both use humor to depict how they have outgrown (or not outgrown) an issue from their respective childhoods. From my point of view, the former one, “My Inner Shrimp” accomplishes this goal better. Firstly, My Inner Shrimp is much more authentic when compared with the "Plague of Tics". It describes a psychological activity during the growing of a boy. I can understand that teenagers are always concentrating on their appearance and feeling upset about their shortcomings. Not only can we achieve happiness about the story, but also we can gain enlightenment from it, just like the fable story. Besides, the story can also remind us of some interesting things during our growing time. However, I am confusing that how a boy can behave so funny like that in "Plague of Tics". It seems to be made up just intending to please the readers. Secondly, I was indeed attracted by the details in "My Inner Shrimp", not only the dialogue but also the psychological activity. I cannot control myself to stop laughing. I think it is the most successful part of the story. And as for me, things which make you laugh in humorous narrative essay depend on details, rather than describe odd behaviors like "Plague of Tics". Although it has an ending contrary to expectation .
For instance, two examples below can prove my opinion. First, on page two, from the mark 5 to the mark 8, the dialogue is a teasing by a girl. Her naïveness is quite funny, especially after reading the later part. Secondly, it is the behavior that the boy incorporated into his daily routine that makes laugh for a long time. He cared his shortness a lot! He is so funny that he is just like a clown. From the story, I know that it is not mature to pay too much attention on your appearance.

Assignment 2: Humorous narrative essays

Well, when I done with A Plague of Tics, I had to say both My Inner Shrimp and A plague of tics are very good at using humor to describe their emotion and feeling when they have a special issue and the authors use excellent details to print the image that they want to show the reader. Imagine that, if you have the same experience with the author Garry Trudeau for My Inner Shrimp, I am pretty sure you will understand why Trudeau felt harrowing for his height though he over six feet tall right now better. To be honest, I had the exactly same experience with Trudeau when I was in middle school. That’s is the major reason I think Trudeau is better for using humor to depict how he has outgrown an issue from his childhood, because I can completely understand his excruciating feeling to be a ‘shrimp’.

Let’s see, when he humorously says that “Of course what we couldn’t have known was that he and my mother already had. They had given me a delayed developmental timetable… I was, in the apace of a few months, reborn- and I made the most of it. (Page 2) ” From this I can strongly feel how much Trudeau wants to overcome the ‘shrimp’ problem. Yes! He tried everything that can let he get out of the name “midget”, he hanging from door frames, sleeping on his back, and doing floor exercises.

Later on, when he grows up and over six feet tall, he felt everything that happened when he was the midget was just a kind of “process”, and that always happens, especially when you are in adolescent and you have a fragile self-esteem. But it will make you to consider that sort of funny how you did in that “shrimp time”. It is really funny when he says that in the end, “Sometimes I think I’d like to return to a high-school reunion to surprise my classmates. Not that they didn’t know me when I finally started catching up. They did, but I doubt they’d remember. Adolescent hierarchies have a way of enduring; I’m sure I am still recalled as the midget I myself have never really left behind (page 2)”. I can tell how happy it is when he catching up, he even wants to show to his classmates that he is not a midget any more.

With no doubt, Trudeau is really good at using humorous to depict his emotions and let reader understand his feeling through his funny story and the language with full of drollness. And I like the way he use in last paragraph, it is droll! “Of course, if I’m going to show up, it’ll have to be soon. I’m start to shrink” Anyway, I think Trudeau is better than Sedaris.

Assignment 2:Humorous Narrative Essays

A plague of tics and My Inner Shrimp are two story stories about the growing pains,i think a plague of tics accomplishes the goal better.

In the first part, his teacher has a talk with him ,his teacher's visit and his mother was told about his tics, the description about a series of inner activities is homous, from the description there is a devil living in his heart, there is a inner voice driving him doing these thing, bathe the light switch with tongue, press his nose to door, carpet and windshield .there is a sentence on page 9 can explain his thinks:" A person had to do these things because nothing was worse than the anguish of not doing them." He likes doing these things.

Different grade teacher's visitting tells his different tics in his growing.Page15 tells about his fouth-grade teacher,he likes rolling his eyes.Page 16 tells about his fifth-grade and sixth-grade teacher, with his growing, there were many problems companying with him:shake his head, urge to summon high-pitch noises from the back of his throat.Althoug he give up the former habits, another tics come to follow him.

Then he came to the university,in page 21itis said:"for it was there that I discovered drugs, drinking, and somking.I'm unsure of the scientific aspects, but for some reason,my nervous habits faded about the same time I took up with cigarettes."Growing is pianful, but he remembered all his foemer tics. The last part is most important, like a conclusion, with houmor descripte the inner thought when he grow up .

Assignment 2: Humorous Narrative Essays

"Plague of Tics" (David Sedaris) is a great story.
I really like “Plague of Tics” because David Sedaris accomplishes his goals better than Gary Trudeau. He gives us more detail description and he know how to describes humorous details, the obsessive compulsive behavior that plagued his life from grade school into college. He had strange tics and that’s why sometimes this is funny but in the same time it’s sad and painful to read. His tics are like “licking every light switch encountered”, “six hundred and thirty-seven steps on the way home from school”, I would touch the front door seven times with each elbow”, “kissing the fourth, eighth, and twelfth carpeted stair” and much more.
It’s painful when you know that every year it’s the same, every year a teacher came at your house to talk with your mother about your behavior. It’s hard to be mother in this case. His mother tries to hide his behavior, and every year when a teacher comes home, she try to be like 2 “best friends”. He listen the conversation between his mother and Miss Chestnut and when they talk about his behavior he wants to do something else, pg 7 “I tried rocking in bed, but sound of laughter drew me to the top of the landing, where from my vantage point behind an oversized wardrobe box, I watched the two women discuss my behavior.”
The protagonist was very young but still had a goal and I think in time he will be better .

Assignment 2: Humorous Narrative Essays

Gary Trudeau’s "My Inner Shrimp" shows readers the "shadow" of being short, while David Sedaris’s "Plague of Tics" tells an interesting story about a hyperactive boy's overcoming. I've finished the first one but not complete the second one yet. I agree that they are both using humor to depict the childhood stories.
As for "My Inner Shrimp", the title itself is a nice humor. We cannot tell what the story the writer wants to show and we are interested in reading it. Then we know that it is a lovely metaphor towards the main point. He is no longer small, but he used to be; he is no longer self-abased, but he used to be.
Another brilliant part is the first paragraph (P 93). It says "...I shall be a recovering short person. Even from my lofty perch of something...” The word "recovering" is such an interesting dig which shows the attitude of the author. And another dig "lofty perch" shows the current situation.
Page 95 the paragraph starts with "Of course...” It says "...I miraculously shot up'', which humorously tells the amazing speed that he was growing in his seventeenth year.
Same page the last part, last words, "I'm starting to shrink". I think it is a wonderful sentence for to summarize the whole. It not only shows the main idea that he never forget being short, but also tells a positive attitude towards life.
Assignment2
While reading Gary Trudeau's My Inner Shrimp and David Sedaris's a Plague of Tics, they both make me belly laugh. These two narratives both use humor to describe the strange experience in their childhood, their style of writing are both well, but by contrast, I prefer David Sedaris's a Plague of Tics more.
Gary Trudeau's My Inner Shrimp is good, but the reason I choose a Plague of Tics is better is that a Plague of Tics's length of a piece of writing is longer than My Inner Shrimp , so it inculd more detail describations, not only this, but also clean language, writing free and easy, delicate thoughts,My Inner Shrimp can't match all these details with a Plague of Tics.
The narrative a Plague of Tics depicts during the author's growing up,the peculiar habbit he has. And the author describe them all in detail, like shaked his chair in class, licked the light's power switch, touched his eyeball to harm himself, used his onse to press the window, made a sound like "En" , "Aa",and each time when his teacher wanted to make a home visiting ,the teacher would had a "good time" to drank with his mother."I'm assuming you weren't raised by animals. Is she blind, your mother? Can she se the way you behave, or do you reserve your antics exclusively for Miss chestnut?"[p.3] this is a really good proof of what he done in class and his mother's response of his bad behavior. When he went to university,he even asked his roomate to go to his girlfriend, so that it left himself alone in the dorm,he can do all his eccentricities. After that he was found of smoking and gave up all these eccentricities.
later reading the passage,it may remind you some bad behavior that you have in your childhood or even now, and you think about it don't you think it is so interesting?

Assignment 2: Humorous narrative essays

Comparing " My Inner Shrimp" and " A plague of tics", I think the first one is better. In "My Inner Shrimp" Gary wrote his real experience to express his emotion of being a "shrimp". After I finished reading Gary's essay, I am able to feel his harrowing feeling, and understand his meaning that was expressed by a humorous way. What's more, I admire the details that Gary focused on---these details gave us an atmosphere to imagine what his feeling was.

In the most parts of " My Inner shrimp" Gary described his " shrimp time". He tries his best to be a tall boy or at least a normal height boy instead of being a midget, for instance, he slept on his back and did floor exercise (page 2). All the things he did just because he expected to overcome his dilemma--- shorter than others. The first time he recognized his problem was a contingent in an afternoon. Gary suddenly recognized the building was so high and glorious but he was short. And then he met another depressed thing that made him upset and a little bit angry. He wrote some dialog about the " hurt woman". By his description I feel that he really did not like the woman in the sales office, because he did not add some title for that woman---just called her " she" (page 2)... All these experience were calamities for Gary. From the description before we can know that the humorous way is that he said some funny comparisons instead of pessimistic words, such as shrimp and midget.

Even though others taunted him, he still never gave up---this is also his humorous way, I think. Also we can learn some spirit from what he did. Actually, Gary had a complicated emotion--- on one hand he achieved his goal ( to be tall), on another hand he still had harrowing feeling about his life before. No matter how terrible the situation is, we could overcome it---this is the principle I learned from " My Inner Shrimp".

Even.

Humorous narrative essay

Both of Gary Trudeau and David Sedaris used humor to describe some unusual experience about their childhood. I would prefer My Inner Shrimp. It is more vivid and I can feel the author’s emotion as lf I have experienced it.
The main idea of My Inner Shrimp is about a teenager who is so short that he was treated unfairly and the process of overcoming the dilemma. When he went hunting for a new office, he found a low room. Then he talked with them about the room. He wrote” She abruptly turned away, but it was too late. She’d just confirmed that a major New York developer, working with a fully licensed architect, had knowingly created an entire twelve-story apartment building virtually uninhabitable by anyone of even average height. It was an exclusive high rise for shorties.”(Page 2) He used humorous and ironical way to write about the people who work in sales office. After this, we can know his humor in “When I was fourteen, I was the third-smallest in a high school class of one hundred boys, routinely mistaken for a sixth grader.”
Finally, he miraculously shot up six inches, but he wanted to return to the high school to surprise his classmates.

Assignment2

First, both a plague of tics and my inner shrimp are humous narrative essays. However, from my point of view, compared with a plague of tics,I consider that my inner shrimp is much better composed. My reason is as follows.
first ,the most important reason is that my inner shrimp has some more details and a good structue. In the first pragraph,Garry first expressed his harrow since he was a midget. Then from the second pragraph to the nine pragraph,he told us an experience when he found a house. Then from then tenth pragraph to the thirteenth pargraph ,he described the process he experienced in order to fade away the scorn from others. At last,he just stated what he thought from his experience.
In the second part,he described when he looked down on the receptionist,he determined to become tall. Then in the third part,he really did a good description about what he had done. He hang from door frames, slept on the back ,did assorted floor exercises(from the tenth pargraph of my inner shrimp). And then ,at least,he told us that the way to fade away scorn from others. As a matter of fact,I really believe that his description of details is better than a plague of tics. From his essay ,we also could get some truth about life and attitude when you face some difficulties.

Assignment2: Humorous Narrative Essays

"a plague of tics" is more successfully accomplished to attract readers. This essay is focused on the author's recovery from hi bad and very strange habit, such as licking switches, rolling his eyes and rocking. What he wanted to tell readers is those strange habit from childhood can be changed by time or new environment. The author says that many teachers visited his house to make him stop his strange behavior but all of them failed. His habit was fixed after he entered a university. He met new environment there. He had a roommate who disturbed his rocking and he met drugs, smoking and drinking which they made his strange habit boring.
The author succeed to attract readers by using more humorous expression than "my inner shrimp".Especially, he use "flashback and metaphors" efficiently. For instance, "...thinking of what an odd woman she was, my third-grade teacher, miss Chestnut. Why come here and lick my switches when she never used the one she had? May be she was drunk." (from page 6) is flashback of page 4 "Would you like me to come over to your house and put my tongue on your light switches?" I like this humor the best. In addition, he uses a lot of metaphors. For example, page 7 "...narrowing her eyes much like a cat catching sight of a squirrel." is a good metaphoric expression. These two descriptions makes this story more fascinating than "My inner shrimp".

Assignment 2: Humorous narrative essays

My inner shrimp from Gary Trudeau and A plague of tics from David Sedaris are both humorous narrative essays. To be frank, I like them both. But apparently, a plague of tics is much longer than my inner shrimp, and gives us more detail description and character inner emotion, so I have to say A plague of tics is the winner this time.
The protagonist of a plague of tics is a little boy who has a lot of weird habits, such as touching his eyes to make “satisfied pain”, to rocket his chair or bed unendingly even if his college roomy thinks he is masturbation himself, to lick the disgusting lights switch…From he’s first grade to college, protagonist gives his mother uncounted troubles.
Let’s see how many times his teachers have to come to his home and have a really “pleasure” drink time with his mother. And don’t you think each one represent a new kind of weird peculiarity. “Miss Chestnut arrived for her visit, I was in my bedroom,, rocking.” “Now she was Katherine. Another few drinks and she’d probably be joining us for our summer vacation.” ““Have a seat and let me get you something cool to drink.” My mother would leave my fifth and then my sixth-grade teachers standing in the breakfast nook while she stepped into the kitchen to crack open a tray of ice.”
Author didn’t just tell us about his peculiarities, by using his growing experience, he let readers experience protagonist’s pain in his growing. Basing on detailed descriptions, he also let readers to laugh, and when they finish laugh, they like to think back about this passage and the experience belong to protagonist and themselves.

Assignment 2 : Humorous Narrative Essays

For these two stories of " My inner Shrimp " and " Plague of tics ", I think most of us would prefer the latter because of David Sedaris does use a lot of interesting words in his article, but to be quite honest in my mind, I'd prefer Gary Trudeau's one.

Different from the other one, " My inner Shrimp " is really simple which I think could make the reader grasp his main idea easily and quickly. Gary's words seem so true and honest to me. I can get the same feeling with him all time reading. I could feel the way how he has "the soul of a shrimp" even from his " lofty perch of something over six feet"( Pg. 1). When he went hunting for a new office which I consider as the most interesting part of this article, he first described as " When I was ushered into the model unit, my pulse quickened: the soaring, twenty-two-foot living room walls were gloriously aglow with the remains of the day." (Pg.2) Right after this, he gave us a big shock. "I stayed ducked: the room was a little more than six feet in height." " While my head technically cleared the ceilling, the effect was excruciatingly oppressive."(Pg.2) I really appreciate this dramatically change.

Then he leads us to revisiting his " perilous past" with him. He writes about how he was treated because of his really short height. He was " drafted into a contingent of students ignominiously dubbed the ' Midgets'."(Pg.2) Even after that period he grew tall he still felt " the impact of being literally looked down on, of being made to feel small, is forever."(Pg.2) I do appreciate his inner-feeling description of this part.

Assignment 2: Humorous Narrative Essays

For Gary Trudeau’s "My Inner Shrimp" and David Sedaris’s "Plague of Tics" these two humorous narrative essays, I think that “A Plague of Tics” is better than another one. It has more minute description. "A Plague of Tics" use humor to describe how he got different from his childhood.
When David was a little boy, he has a lot of problems. He likes to do something different. in early, he like to lick the light switches, to press his nose against the windshield of a car, to use shoe to hit his head just because he “heard” his shoe whispered, and so on. Also, he has some strong opinion, for example, the sentences he said in page 7, “Rocking was not a mandatory duty bit a voluntary and highly pleasurable exercise. It was my hobby, and there was noting else I would rather do.” Then he get some other "habits",such as making noise. In page 9,"Eeeeeeee--ummmmmmm--mmm-ahhhh-ahhh-meeeeeeee" But those “habits” broke when he went to the college. he begain to do some other thing, like "discovered drugs, dringking, and smoking."In page 11, so he change some earlier habits, Also in page 11“For some reason, my nervous habits faded about the same time I took up with cigarette. Maybe it was coincidental or perhaps the tics retreated in the face of an adversary that, despite its health risks, is much more socially acceptable than crying out in tiny voices. ” Although smoking is not good, but his family members think those were better than the thing that he like to do in his childhoods. From that time, he changes a lot. He still have some bad habits, but he knows his behavior is not good. He wants change them ang make hinself better. Just like the ending of the story in page 12, " 'sorry, folks,' " I’d say, pressing my against the surface of my ticket booth. 'But I’ve got other duties.' " In this story, David Sedaris use homour from the begining to the ending, the way he depict how he changed is very meticulous, so I like this essay.

assignment 2:Humorous narrative essays

Comparing two narrative essays, My inner shrimp and A plague of tics, I think that David Sedaris accomplishes his goals better than Gary Trudeau. Gary grew physically, however, there was still a shrimp in his heart. On the other hand, David changed himself by heart even though he still retained some tics.
At the beginning, David was such a problem child. He was always doing strange things, like licking light switch, tapping himself with shoe, touching whichever single leaf or blade of glass, kissing steps and newspaper. What’s worse, from page 6 he said,” it never failed to amaze me that people might notice these things. Because my action were so intensely private, I had always assumed they were somehow invisible.” Miss chestnuts’ house visiting did not help to stop this strange behavior.
Later on, David changed in college, as his father said on page 11,” College is the best thing that can happened to you.” He successfully discovered drugs, drinking, and smoking. What’s more, David sometime attempted to revisit his former tics and habits with the help from his sister and some people. As a matter of fact, he did. Form page 12 ,when he press his nose against the doorknob or roll his eyes to achieve that once-satisfying ache, his sisters’ words would occur to his mind,” remember when you used to roll you eyes?’’’’ remember the time you shook your head so hard, your glasses fell into the barbeque pit?” and soon David lost interest because the exercise lacks of its old urgency.
David Sedaris was changing. His goal was to revisit his former tics and bad habit, and he tried very hard to achieve this goal. We know, he was just one step far from his goal and he just need more time.

Amir and Baba

In the first four chapters, I know a little bit of the relationship between Baba and Amir---they were not so healthy relevance. Even though Amir and Baba had some emotional problems , Amir still respect his Baba on some degree. Just like the relationship between Hassan and Amir, Baba and Amir's relationship was complicated. On one hand, Amir liked his Baba---he wanted to show himself in front of Baba, on another hand, Amir hated Baba---because of Baba's love to Hassan. May be Amir's feeling was not hate, it was just the envi of Hassan.Sometimws, Amir could not secide" whether I wanted to hug hiim or leap fromo his lap in mortal fear."This makes me think about my relationship with my dad--- we are not so good all the time, but we still love wach other.

In the first two chapters, there were not so many description about Amir feeling to Baba. But we can still recognize that Amir envied Hassan about Baba's love. Amir wanted his Baba to be just his "old man".We are able to see that when" Baba patted Hassan on the back, even put his arm around his shoulder.", Amir was filled with envi---this envi maybe because Amir expected his Baba's love on the nature way. What's more, on the ceremony day of the orphanage, Amir got a chance to show that Baba was his only Baba through Baba motioning his hat to Amir. Aslo, he was always wondering why Baba was so kind to Hassan, but always left him alone to have dinner . In order to get Baba's love, Amir wished all the children in the orphanage would all died along with their parents--- all thess bad imagine just because Amir loved his Baba. If I were Amir, I might have the same feeling with him. Without mum, it is a nature expect to hope to get care from dad.

Refer to Baba, he was a responsible man---to Amir and Hassan and other kids in the orphanage. When Baba decided to build an orphanage, all the people around him said his behavior was foolish. Despite the press from " the around people", Baba still finished the orphanage with his own money and emotion. Amir did feel proud of Baba about the orphanage except Baba "left him alone to have dinner". Baba never said his story to Amir, but he still love Amir---thought Amir how to be a good and successful man in the future, and thought him numerous maxis. For instance, " there is no act more wretched than stealing" or when you kill a man , you steal a life". Baba, treated Amir strict, but he strict was because of love. As far as I am concerned, I thinik Baba is a good father, not only to Amir but also to the kids in the orphanage. He spread his love and made a contribution to our soceity.

All in all, Amir and Baba had some special way to express their love to each other.Baba was strict to Amir, and almost never say some complements to Amir. As Baba's son, Amir hoped to hear some things that made him be proud of himself. They did have some emotional problems some time, but in fact they loved each other, and cared about each other. This situation makes me thinks about myself---my baba is also strict to me, and I know he wants me to be better and better, so I try my best to satisfy his hope. Sometimes, I feel boring about this" satisfy hope", but it is just a temporary feeling. Every baba and kid has some complicated time, no matter what emotional problems they have, they still love each other in their heart.

Amir&Baba

In the first 4 chapters of Kite Runner, I think Amir and his father almost have a healthy relationship. Although in the second chapter there is a paragraph describe about Amir and his father showing that his father is very stern to him, they still love each other.
One of the most important factor is that Baba talk with his son truth. In the third chapter, Baba and Amir had a conversation which was about the sin that Amir learned at school. After Amir told hid father that drinking is sin, his father propped him up to his lap and said “do you want to know what your father thinks about sin?"(16 page) Then, he taught Amir about sin. In addition, Amir love and fear his father as everyone. He want his father only belong to him when his father played with the children in orphanage and Hassan. However, he is not brave enough to change their relationship to very closely, because he was afraid of his father. This is a normal emotion in every family.
On the other hand, Amir is a little weak. He is interested in literature especially poetry. He don’t like soccer as others’ young boys. Also, he can’t protect himself when his neighborhood tease him. However. his father want him to read books about business, play soccer and at least he can self-defense. Baba disappointed to Amir for a lot of things even he doubted if Amir is his real son. Consequently, his father always disappoint him and they have different characteristics, he run the different ways.
In conclusion, Amir and Baba have several different opinions. They like different things and they have different dreams. Amir have him own talent which is about literature. However Baba like a normal man, he is energetic and a little self-centered. And also, he don’t know how to be a good father and he don’t know encourage is better than comment.

DEADLINE FOR ASSIGNMENT 1

Please do not post any more responses to Assignment 1 on the Blog.

Assignment:Amir&Baba

After I finishing the first four chapters,I consider that the relationship between Amir and Baba is not as rugular as other familities. Generally,in most families, both father and children would like to communicate with each other in order to improve the parent-child relationship. However,in this novel,we could see that Baba and Amir are lack of communication. From Baba's side,I believe he loves his son deeply. However,on one side,he really doesn't want to express his emotion to his son for the love to him. On the other side,I think he treats Amir rigorously. He told Amir to learn to respect others and don't play jokes on others. From my point of view,I think all he wants to is to make Amir to behave better.
And then, from Amir's side,he was so sensitive about his father. He was just a child who want to get love from his father and also,he really want to be admired by his father.First, when Baba started to bulid a orphanage,Amir wanna to all the orphan could die with their their parents becasuce he thought it was those orphan who reduce the love from Baba to him. Then ,when Amir finished his first story,he brought it to Baba first, but to his disappointment, his father did't say something more. In fact,he thought Baba would have a depression about him. As a result, when Rahim Khan gave a prize about his story,Amir really want Rahim Khan be his father.I think in Amir's heart,he looked Baba as an idol of him. Thus,he want to get the acknowledgement from Baba.

Assignment 1: Amir & Baba

After reading the four chapters,I think the realitionships between Baba and Amir is distant and unhealth, doesn't like a normal family, becausethey are lake of communication.
Baba and Amir are really two kinds of person,Baba is found of soccer and business, and has self-confidence in himself, but Amir prefers writing more, and has the opposite characters with Baba.So Baba really wants Amir also plays soccer and give up writing to do something like a real man,but on the opposite,Amire does well in writing,he can't play soccer as well as Baba.So the problem comes out, they can't understand each other,Baba sometime very disappoint at Amir ,he can'y dig out the special ability that Amir has in writinf and wonder how could he be my son?'If I hadn't seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I'd never believe he's my son' [page 23]this sentence is really a good proof of what Baba thinks. But Amir always considers that Baba hate him because of his birth lead to his mother's death, and always under a great presure of his father's will. They are quite different. They both don't talk with each other but just keep it in mind,so it results that they get far away from each other which doesn't like father and son.Maybe dispite the realationship they have, they are just stranges.

Assignment 1: Amir & Baba

Through the first chapters we can see there is no doubt and obviously that Amir and his father have a distant relationship which is not healthy at all.

For one thing, let’s take a look at their totally different characteristic that probably is one reason they do not have a healthy relationship. Baba is a man has ambitious and confident to do everything he liked, such as soccer and his own business. In contrary to his Baba, Amir’s character is totally opposite form his father. He loves reading and writing that Baba didn’t give any cares about his talent about literary. There is a perfect example from the book, ‘If I hadn't seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I'd never believe he's my son. (P. 23)’ which is happened in Buzkashi tournament when Amir let his father down again Baba said to other people. I guess this is one of the reasons that Baba does not like his own son. Also, Amir knows that his father hated him because Baba’s wife was died when she give birth to Amir. Here is the evidence proofed on Page 19 “The truth of it was,I always felt like Baba hated me...I had killed his beloved wife...” Another detail from book can support my point about their distant relationship. On page 32, Amir trying to tell Baba about the elaborate story he spend a long time to written and he expect some applaud. But, Baba didn’t give any cares about his writing even didn’t look at it. I can imagine that it is such a shock to a little young boy, it is hurt.

All in all, from the facts we talked above, we can see how unhealthy the relationship between Amir and Baba is.

Assignment 1: Amir and Baba

The relationship between Amir and Baba it’s distant and not so healthy. When he talk about the speech p14 - p15, Amir is proud to have a father like Baba, p15 “When Baba ended his speech, people stood up and cheered. They clapped for a long time. Afterward, people shook his hand. Some of them tousled my hair and shook my hand too. I was so proud of Baba, of us.” Amir wants to see his father being proud of him and that’s why he try to pretending to enjoy the soccer games when is with Baba. Amir wants more, he wants Baba to be like a friend for him, and he try to talk with his father, he want to learn new things but Baba it’s always uninterested. Baba never answer when Amir wants to know something new p14 “I asked Baba why they grew their hair long, but Baba grunted, didn’t answer..” Amir wants a good relationship with his father but Baba is not proud with his son. Baba want Amir to be like him, he wants to have a strong son and when he’s in a fight or arguing Baba want Amir to self-defense.

When Amir hears the conversation between Baba and Rahim Khan , he became sad and he know that Baba he never change. From the pag 22-23 when Baba is on a conversation with Rahim Khan, we can see how Baba have bad feelings about his son. He don’t like when “he’s always buried in those books or shuffling around the house like he’s lost in some dreams”. I think their relationship is fake.
