I do agree with the statement Amir said. They did get what they both deserved in that house that day.
For years Amir held the guilt inside for his actions in the alley. Assef was the person who inflicted the assault on Hassan and Amir was susposed to be his friend and stood by and watched when it happened to him.
When Amir was attacked he felt like he deserved it because of the sins he had committed. For the first time in his life he put his own fear aside and walked into the Talib's house and confronts his own demons. As Amir was being attacked we see he laughed. He felt a strange sort of inner peace through the beating. He in way a way accepted it as a form of punishment and finally settled his conscience that haunted him for so many years.
When Sohrab shot shot the brass ball into Assef's eye, it was just what he deserved. For all the sins he committed, especially for assaulting hassan.
