If you keep reading the dialogue on P299, talking between Farid and Amir shows the answers for the questions above. Yes, finally, Assef, Amir, they got retributions that they should deserve, I think.
From previous chapter we can recall the bad things that Amir has done to Hassan, and Assef. And now, Amir trying to rescue Soharb by fighting with Assef, and from the fighting he got hurt badly. Also, Assef was injured by slingshot from Soharb, because Soharb was so angry with what Assef did to him. So, let just say they both got retributions physically, but, here Amir not merely mean physical retributions, I think he also want to say something that spiritual, because he starts repent what he did wrong to reparation.

Amir has the sense of liability for guilt for Hassan in the deep heart, some physical injury make him feel better and decrease the guilty conscience.
